Morning VI of VII
Return to Ground
The ember
Beneath the noise, something in you still glows. This morning, we tend the quiet fire of what matters to you.
When days are full and demanding, it is easy to lose sight of why we do any of it. The list of tasks grows loud, and the deeper reason goes quiet. But it does not go out. Like an ember beneath grey ash, what truly matters to you keeps its warmth, waiting only for a little breath and a little attention to glow again.
Your values are not goals to achieve or rules to obey. They are directions: the way your heart points when no one is watching, toward tenderness perhaps, or honesty, courage, beauty, care. You do not have to arrive anywhere. You only have to remember which way you wish to face, and take one small step in that direction.
The practice · a few slow minutes
A recorded version will live here soon; for now, let the words below guide you.
- Settle where you are, take a few slow breaths, and feel yourself held by the ground.
- Ask gently: beneath everything I have to do, what do I most deeply care about? Let an answer rise without forcing it; a word, an image, a face.
- Let yourself feel its warmth, the ember glowing beneath the ash.
- Ask: what is one small way I could honour this today? Not a grand act; one small, true one.
- Picture yourself doing that one small thing, and notice how it feels to face that direction.
- Breathe gently on the ember once more, and carry its warmth with you into the day.
A question to sit with
What is one small way I can move toward what matters to me today?
An invitation to nature
Step outside and find something that is quietly, effortlessly alive: a weed in a crack, a bird at work, sunlight on a wall. Let it remind you that life keeps choosing itself, and so can you.
